From Console to PC: Building a BDT 95,000 Gaming Rig for a Uttara University Student — Full Case Study

16 June 2026 · 12 min read · BAYAS Editorial

The Request: "Can You Build Something Better Than a PS5 for BDT 95,000?"

Rayan is a 19-year-old CSE student at a private university in Uttara. He had been gaming on a PlayStation 5 for two years, but he was frustrated by three things: the cost of PS5 games (BDT 5,000–7,000 per title), the lack of mod support for games like Skyrim and Cities: Skylines, and the fact that he needed a separate laptop for his university coding assignments.

"Bhai, I have BDT 95,000 saved up," he messaged us on WhatsApp. "I want a PC that can play Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p ultra, run Visual Studio Code without lag, and let me play Valorant with my friends. Can you make this happen?"

One console to rule them all — or one desktop that does both?

The Consultation — Understanding the Requirements

Before any parts were purchased, we sat down with Rayan (virtually, over WhatsApp — then in person at his Uttara apartment) to understand his needs:

Usage Breakdown

Use CasePriorityRequirements
Gaming (Cyberpunk 2077, RDR2, Valorant, CS2)★★★★★Dedicated GPU, 16+ GB RAM, fast SSD
University coding (VS Code, Android Studio)★★★★☆Multi-core CPU, 16+ GB RAM
Video streaming & YouTube★★★☆☆Any modern GPU can handle this
Potential future streaming★★☆☆☆Keeping upgrade path open

Budget Constraints

Hard ceiling: BDT 95,000 for the full setup including a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The PS5 was being sold to a cousin for BDT 35,000 — so Rayan's effective budget was BDT 60,000 + sale proceeds.

Dhaka-Specific Concerns

Rayan's apartment in Uttara Sector-6 experiences 1–2 hours of load-shedding per day, typically in the afternoon. His room does not have air conditioning, and the ambient temperature in summer reaches 34°C. These factors directly influenced our component choices.

The Build Plan — Optimized for Dhaka

We presented Rayan with two build options:

Option A: Intel Build (BDT 94,500)

  • Intel Core i5-13400F
  • ASUS Prime B760M-A WiFi
  • 16 GB DDR5 5600MHz (2×8 GB)
  • RTX 4060 8 GB
  • 1 TB NVMe SSD
  • Corsair CV650 80+ Bronze PSU
  • Antec NX292 Mid Tower Case
  • MSI G2422 1080p 165Hz Monitor
  • Redragon K552 Keyboard + Mouse Combo

Option B: AMD Build (BDT 93,000) — ✅ Chosen

  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600 (6-core, 12-thread)
  • Gigabyte B550M Aorus Elite AX
  • 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz (2×16 GB)
  • Zotac RTX 4060 Twin Edge 8 GB
  • 1 TB WD Blue SN580 NVMe SSD
  • Corsair CX550M 80+ Bronze Semi-Modular PSU
  • DeepCool Matrexx 40 with 3 extra 120mm fans
  • Acer Nitro VG240Y 1080p 165Hz IPS Monitor
  • Redragon K617 Fizz Keyboard + Cobra Mouse

Why Rayan chose Option B: The AMD build gave him 32 GB RAM (vs 16 GB in the Intel option) for a lower price, and the AM4 platform left an upgrade path to a Ryzen 7 or 9 processor later. The extra case fans were critical for Dhaka summer cooling.

Part Sourcing — Navigating IDB Bhaban

We accompanied Rayan to IDB Bhaban (Agargaon) on a Thursday morning — the best day for parts shopping because stocks are freshly restocked after the Wednesday weekly holiday.

The Assembly — Three Hours at Rayan's Desk

We arrived at Rayan's Uttara apartment at 2 PM with all components. Assembly and software installation took three hours. Here is the play-by-play:

3:00 PM — Bench Test

Before putting anything in the case, we laid out the motherboard on its box, installed the CPU, RAM, GPU, and PSU, and did a breadboard boot. A bare-bones test prevents the worst-case scenario: mounting everything, only to discover a DOA (dead-on-arrival) component that requires complete disassembly.

The system booted to BIOS on first try — always a good sign.

3:20 PM — Case Preparation

Installed the I/O shield (mistake we see beginners make: forgetting this), mounted the motherboard with standoffs, and connected the front panel headers — power switch, reset, HDD LED, USB 3.0, and HD Audio.

Dhaka tip: We applied a small bead of silicone conformal coating around the motherboard mounting holes. This prevents the screw heads from touching bare PCB traces, which can happen if the motherboard shifts during transport or if the case uses non-anodized screws. Over time, galvanic corrosion at these points can cause intermittent grounding issues.

[] Poor case grounding and mounting can cause intermittent PC shutdowns → /services/desktop-pc-repair-service-dhaka

4:00 PM — Cable Management

Cable management is not just about aesthetics — in a Dhaka apartment without AC, good airflow is the difference between 65°C and 80°C GPU temperatures. We routed all PSU cables behind the motherboard tray, zip-tied bundles, and ensured nothing obstructed the front-to-back airflow path.

DeepCool Matrexx 40 fan configuration:

  • Front: 2×120mm intake (positive pressure)
  • Rear: 1×120mm exhaust
  • Top: 1×120mm exhaust

This creates positive pressure inside the case — more air coming in than going out — which reduces dust buildup. Dhaka's air quality (AQI frequently above 150) makes dust management essential. We also installed fan filters on both intake fans.

5:00 PM — OS and Drivers

Windows 11 Pro installation from USB — 15 minutes on the NVMe SSD. Then:

  • Chipset drivers (AMD B550)
  • GPU drivers (NVIDIA Game Ready, version 560.xx)
  • BIOS update to latest version (AGESA 1.2.0.3 for Ryzen stability)
  • XMP profile enabled in BIOS (RAM running at full 3600MHz)

5:30 PM — Stress Testing

We ran Cyberpunk 2077 benchmark at 1080p Ultra (no DLSS) for 30 minutes:

  • Average FPS: 78
  • GPU temperature: 68°C (max 72°C)
  • CPU temperature: 62°C (max 67°C with stock cooler)
  • System power draw: 310W from the wall

The CX550M PSU (550W rated) was running at 56% load — perfect efficiency range. The temperatures were well within safe limits even without room AC, validating our thermal strategy.

The Outcome — A Console Killer

Load-Shedding Protection Plan

Because Rayan faces 1–2 hours of daily load-shedding, we recommended and installed:

  1. A quality surge protector (BDT 1,200 from IDB) — Belkin 8-outlet surge strip. This absorbs the voltage spikes that occur when mains power returns after an outage.

  2. A 1000 VA UPS (BDT 6,500 additional, purchased separately) — This gives Rayan 8–12 minutes of backup time. Enough to save his game or coding work and shut down safely. We configured the UPS software to automatically hibernate Windows after 5 minutes on battery.

We did not include a UPS in the original budget, but we strongly recommended it. Rayan bought one the following week after a load-shedding event corrupted a save file in Cyberpunk 2077. For help choosing the right UPS for your setup, see our [] UPS repair and installation service → /services/ups-repair-service-dhaka.

Dhaka Summer Cooling Tips for Gaming PCs

Gaming generates significant heat — up to 350W for a mid-range build. In a Dhaka room at 34°C ambient, that heat builds up quickly. We advised Rayan:

  • Keep the PC case off the floor — floor-level air is dustier and warmer. A simple wooden block or stand lifts it 10–15 cm.
  • Open the side panel only temporarily — contrary to intuition, removing the side panel disrupts the designed airflow path and actually increases component temperatures.
  • Schedule gaming sessions for after Maghrib — the 5–8 PM window in Dhaka summer is the coolest part of the day. Running stress-heavy games during peak 2–4 PM heat adds 5–8°C to GPU temperatures.
  • [] Schedule a bi-annual deep clean — every 6 months, bring the PC in for a dust blowout and thermal paste refresh. Dhaka dust is fine and clogs radiators quickly. Our [] computer maintenance service → /services/computer-maintenance-service-dhaka offers this as a standard package.

Upgradability Roadmap

One of the key advantages of a custom build is the upgrade path. We mapped out a 3-year plan for Rayan:

TimeframeUpgradeEstimated CostPerformance Gain
6 monthsAdd a 2TB HDD for game storageBDT 4,500More games installed
12 monthsSwap CPU to Ryzen 7 5700X3DBDT 22,00015–20% gaming FPS gain
18 monthsUpgrade GPU to RTX 5070BDT 55,0002× performance vs RTX 4060
24 monthsAdd 32 GB more DDR4 RAMBDT 7,20064 GB total for heavy multitasking

The AM4 platform gives him one of the longest upgrade windows in PC history — AMD has committed to supporting AM4 through 2026+. Unlike buying a pre-built or a gaming laptop, every component can be swapped individually.

The Verdict — Six Months Later

We followed up with Rayan at the 6-month mark. His response:

"Best BDT 108,000 I have ever spent. I play Cyberpunk at 1080p ultra and it never drops below 65 FPS even during the busiest scenes. For university, I run Android Studio, VS Code, and a dozen Chrome tabs simultaneously — zero lag. And I have already saved BDT 30,000+ on game prices vs what I was spending on PS5. My friends are all asking me to help them build PCs now."

Compared to a gaming laptop at the same price — which would thermal throttle within 20 minutes during a Dhaka summer and offer zero upgrade potential — Rayan's custom desktop will last 5–7 years with only minor upgrades. The total cost of ownership is significantly lower.
